Green Building Professional Certificate Program Comes to the North Bay

A Green Building Professional Certificate Program providing comprehensive, in-depth insight into the New Green Economy will begin on January 10 at Autodesk in San Rafael.

The Program examines the entire bundle of ‘green’ issues and strategies including: smart growth, transportation alternatives, clean energy technologies, ecological restoration, carbon as a currency, green materials, and much more.

Intended for design professionals, builders, building owners, facility managers, manufacturers, educators, realtors, salespeople, community organizers and a wide range of others, the Program is hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council Redwood Empire Chapter. The Program addresses core concepts and strategies that apply to both small-scale residential as well as large scale-commercial building.

Developed in accordance with the LEED® Green Building Rating Systems, the 6-month Program takes place one Saturday per month, beginning January 10th, and completes in June. The Program is presented by Longview Education Associates principals Bruce Hammond, LEED-AP and Pete Gang AIA, LEED-AP and distinguished guest faculty. Together they created and led Sonoma State University ’s highly successful green building certificate program, for the last five years one of the leading green building education programs in the country.

“As ‘green’ increasingly becomes the operating standard within mainstream business and government, the demand for professionals with an integrated understanding of green building practices will only increase,” states Program faculty Pete Gang, AIA. “Our Program provides the understanding necessary to participate fully and profitably in the New Green Economy.”

Green Building Professional Certificate Program

I am pleased to announce the Green Building Professional Certificate Program
at Sonoma State University starting this January. Please take a moment to
read the attached course descriptions, and forward this email to anyone you
know who may be interested in taking this great program.

This Certificate Program is designed with the working professional in mind.
It has been streamlined to enable completion within a six-month period,
while still focused on developing the understanding necessary to enable
sustainable building decision making within a corporate, institutional,
non-profit, municipal or individual setting. Graduates of this program will
be able to work with the owners, project managers, architects, engineers,
builders and subcontractors for a project to facilitate Green Building
decision making, and to set out, monitor and fulfill attainable objectives.

The program has been revised into four curriculum sections that will delve,
with great depth, into a variety of relevant topics in both classroom and
field trip settings. All courses are open for enrollment to students not
pursuing the full certificate program.
